Charlie Appleby is confident if his unbeaten Dewhurst hero will bid to live up to comparisons with the Frankel, Pinatubo will get a mile next year.
The son of Shamardal made it six wins from as many starts with a second victory at Group 1 level at Newmarket on Saturday, adding to his nine-length romp in National Stakes to provide the Appleby with a very first Dewhurst success.
Appleby understands he should shine next semester to coincide with the exploits of this Sir Henry Cecil-trained superstar though Pinatubo was given a higher juvenile rating than Frankel after his triumph at the Curragh last month.
Appleby said:Pinatubo is not a flashy horse like Frankel was, most of us know what an incredible horse he was he had the prestige of being trained by Sir Henry Cecil.
He is a completely different horse because Frankel was keen to get on with things which left him have thatwow factor.
Pinatubo is a horse that just goes out there and can it. He has been around Epsom, Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood and nothing bothers him. You can not fault him.
It is very good that he to be set in precisely the same sentence as Frankel, but hes to go out and do it again a year ago.
What people will soon be questioning is he isnt the largest horse in the world, but to me he is a really neat racehorse that ignites a good deal of boxes.
Given how the Dewhurst was finished by Pinatubo, his handler expects him to have no problem stepping up against seven furlongs at the Rowley Mile in May 2000 Guineas back to a mile from the Qipco.
He said:William (Buick) got away and said straight away that the mile would not be a problem. The good thing about him, which will help him see it out, is that he switches off.
All of us know just how long that the winter is with horses that are exciting, but we can put this to bed and also look ahead to the Guineas.
Whether hes got a prep run before it, which is debate to be had in January/February time
Along with revealing that he has the ability it was while Pintatubo revealed a new side to his game.
He added:My only stress going into it was that as he is so laid back, would moving in a horse box 10 minutes on the street wake him up enough, as all his runs are much away, but since we sawhe was nice.
His past two races hed won emphatically, admittedly they had been on a sounder surface, but what we saw was do it more of a fighting manner in conditions that were likely to be test for several of the runners.
William had to cajole him along, but after he hit the rising floor and obtained to Arizona, I was convinced that he was about to pull off like he has done in all his races.
Appleby praised the function Godolphin supremo Sheikh Mohammed has played in Pinatubos success story, with picked on him as a potential superstar year.
He explained:I just need to emphasise how great this is for Sheikh Mohammed, because he watched this horse in the farms that time last year and picked him out and thankfully allow him come to Moulton Paddocks.
For him to have had that attention from the beginning with a home-bred as well as watch the horse boom is great for the whole Godolphin team
